Pastor James Sells
Pastor James accepted our congregation’s call in December, 2016 and was installed as the Pastor of Resurrection Lutheran in January, 2017. Pastor James introduced himself and his family to us with this greeting:
Greetings in the name of Christ our Lord. I am a native Texan who grew up at Peace Lutheran Church in College Station. Music became a very important part of my early life and was my first pursuit in college. For two years, I was a Music Education major at the University of North Texas; my principle instrument was the bassoon. A shift in majors saw me to Texas Tech University where I earned a degree in Architecture. It was during this time that the call to serve was ignited through a little church, Gloria Dei Lutheran, in Lubbock. During my time at Tech, I served as custodian, secretary, assisting minister, and choir director of this church; and they supported my discernment towards ministry. This in turn led me to Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, IA, where I got a taste of Northern life; snow, seasons, and my future wife Becky (Flores) Sells, who is also a minister.
Becky is a native Nebraskan (St. Paul’s, Hooper) and we came to Nebraska for First Call to the Tri Point Lutheran Parish in South Central Nebraska; a wonderful call made up of congregations in McCool Jct., Geneva, and Ohiowa. It has been during this time that we had our two boys, John (3) and Daniel (1). After six years we have been in discernment about a change due to family support issues and schedules.
I am excited about the possibilities of ministry at Resurrection; what you are currently doing and what we might do together in the future. I have a love of music and the arts that I think will fit in very well here. I have a love of preaching that I hope the Spirit makes alive in your ears as we worship together.
Peace in Christ, Pr. James
