God’s work our hands happened this year on September 7th and 8th 2019!
This day was and is (each year) an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. Our opportunities this past year were:
Our collection for GWOH this year will again benefit Least of My Brethren. This year we will support the homeless ministry that provides items needed for living outdoors.
The organizations we will be supporting this year and projects that were worked on are:
HETRA: Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy’s Mission is to improve the quality of life both physically and emotionally of adults and children of all ability levels through equine-assisted activities. We volunteered here from 9 am to noon on Saturday the 7th.
Stephen Center: The Stephen Center partners with the community, families, and individuals to overcome homelessness, poverty, and addiction. Memebers of the church volunteered here from 1 pm to 4 pm on Saturday the 7th.
Dragon’s Closet: The Dragon’s Closet serves anyone who resides in the Gretna Public Schools District. Providing personal hygiene items, shoes, and clothing in sizes newborn to adult. We volunteered here from 1 pm to 4 on Sunday the 8th.
Freezer Meals: to be distributed to those in need. These meals were made from 1 pm to 4 on Sunday the 8th, and made here at the church! They were greatly appreciated by families in need!
Rally Day/Sunday School Kickoff Service Projects: The Sunday School classes had been working on some service projects to help local organizations! They made some thank you gifts for local first responders and law enforcement, gifts for local nursing home shut-ins and those that don’t get visitors, blessing bags for Least of my Brethren, and welcoming cards for refugees who have recently come to Nebraska! This happened Sunday, September 8th from 9:35 am to 10:40 am.
