Confirmation is the process by which our youth confirm the faith they received though the Holy Spirit at Baptism. On their baptism, several promises were made to God by the confirmand’s parents, their sponsors (God parents), and their church. The process of confirmation is the fulfillment of these promises as the student claims their faith for their own. At Resurrection we follow a three year model of confirmation. A preparatory year of mentorship leading to two classroom years which meet on Wednesday night.
In 6th grade our kids spend a year with a trusted mentor who helps them walk through one of the Gospels. The end of this mentorship year ends with a public affirmation of work before the congregation as the students prepare for deeper instruction.
In 7th grade our kids spend a year with God’s Word. Along with classroom activities students will participate in Service Projects and Field Trips. The summer of the 7th grade year is the traditional time for our youth to attend Confirmation Camp at Carol Joy Holling.
In 8th grade our kids work through Luther’s Small Catechism which helps them relate the faith to their lives. This includes intensive study of the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments. Our 8th graders continue their Field Trip and Service Project ventures as they look toward their day of Confirmation which occurs at the end of the Spring Semester.
For the 2018-2019 program year our 7th and 8th grade classes will be using the Faith Inkubator’s Head to Heart Curriculum.
Confirmation parents are asked to sign up to attend two classes during the year — one parent or set of parents per class.
7th & 8th Grade parents should sign up for the first class HERE.
